Navahos
raided the tiny community of San Pablo about 1900 A.D., and kidnapped
two children. (My great Uncle Ben said that you could still see the foundation
of the old fort when he was a boy, and of course arrow heads were everywhere. Everyone
would run in there when the Indians raided. He said the walls were
circular.) The townspeople pursued
them into New Mexico and took back the children. They then took
two Indian children. Guadalupe and her sister Incarnacion were
actually part of the raiding party that had taken the Hispanic
children. This is how Guadalupe came into my great-great-grandfather Manuel's life - and this wild
child later would serve lunch to the president of the United States.
